Q. What organizations can participate in Washington County Gives?

Any Washington County, Maryland, nonprofit organization (other than a church, mosque or temple) can participate in Washington County Gives. All organizations must register through this website. Registration for Washington County Gives starts January 23 and ends February 24, 2023. To qualify for our Early Bird Registration and have the chance to win back your registration fee, please submit all forms and payment by January 30, 11:59pm.

Q. Is there a fee to participate?

Yes. Nonprofit organizations with paid staff have a registration fee of $300, while organizations with volunteer staff have a registration fee of $65.


Q. How does my organization register to participate?

First, fill out the Nonprofit Registration Form by clicking the Apply Now button on the Washington County Gives website. Once your online registration form is completed, download and fill in the Memorandum of Understanding and return the form with your registration fee to the Community Foundation. You may pay your registration by credit card: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/cfowcmi or hand-delivering a check and materials to 37 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown MD, 21740 Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 4:00pm. Once you have completely registered, you will need to fill out your Nonprofit’s Profile page where you can add your logo, photos, videos and important information on your organization.


Q. Will you provide training opportunities for my organization if I register to participate?

Yes. GiveGab will offer two webinars, dates and topics to be determined.
You may register for both of these live webinars, and review other pre-recorded trainings, on the Trainings page.

The Community Foundation will hold additional virtual training seminars with dates to be announced soon!

Q. What organizations will be eligible to receive donations and prizes?

Any nonprofit organization (other than a church, mosque or temple) in Washington County, MD, with a 501(c)(3) IRS determination letter that registers with the Community Foundation of Washington County MD by February 24, 2023 and creates a profile for their nonprofit on the Washington County Gives website can receive matching dollars and prize money. Please note that private non-operating foundations cannot receive donations through Washington County Gives and are not eligible for awards.


Q. Is there a maximum amount an organization can receive during Washington County Gives?

There is no maximum amount an organization may receive from individual donors.


Q. How much of the donation goes to my organization?

Give Gab retains a 3% campaign management fee from all donations. Credit card processing fees are an additional 2.5% + $0.30 on each donation. Donors who give $100 or more to an organization have the option to connect with their bank account for an ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfer instead of a credit card and will be charged a flat fee of $3 for their donation. The Community Foundation does not receive any of the fees associated with Washington County Gives. In the past, all fees have been covered by the nonprofit organizations. However, donors have the option to cover the campaign management and credit card/ACH fees if they wish- which means more dollars back to your cause! Donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt on the full donation amount, including any covered fees.


Q. Will my organization receive donor information for acknowledgments?

Yes. Every registered nonprofit can access their donations by clicking on “Donations” in their Dashboard on their Washington County Gives website. You will then be able to review and download a CSV file. Be sure to save your spreadsheet after the giving day! Feel free to reach out to GiveGab Customer Success Team through the blue chat bubble if you have questions.

Don’t forget to reach out to your donors immediately after the event and thank them for supporting your organization. You do not have to send out tax deduction letters because each donor will immediately receive an email confirming the gift receipt from the CFWC during the event. If not, you can resend the donor a receipt through your Dashboard.

DONOR FAQ


Q. Who can donate to Washington County Gives?

Anyone can give. Donations made through the Washington County Gives website to registered nonprofit organizations are tax deductible and irrevocable. Contributions can be made via credit card, debit card, Venmo, or ACH payments only.


Q. What organizations participate in Washington County Gives?

All participating organizations are based in Washington County, Maryland, 501(c)(3) compliant and have registered for this event. See the Leaderboard for a full list of participants.


Q. Is there a minimum or maximum donation?

The minimum donation is $10. There is no maximum donation limit.


Q. Can I only make a donation by credit card?

Donations may be made by credit card in any amount of $10 or more, or by connecting your bank account for an ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfer on donations of $100 or more. Both options have different fee structures.


Q. How much of my donation will go to the nonprofit?

The giving day platform, Give Gab, charges a transaction fee of 3% on all donations. Donors who give $100 or more to an organization have the option to connect with their bank account for an ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfer instead of a credit card and will be charged a flat fee of $3 for their donation. The Community Foundation does not receive any of the fees associated with Washington County Gives. In the past, all fees have been covered by the nonprofit organizations. Like last year, you have the option to cover the entire transaction fee, if you wish--which means more dollars back to your favorite nonprofit! As in the past, all donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount, including any covered fees.


Q. Can I give to more than one organization?

You may make multiple donations to the same or different nonprofit organizations. However, only nonprofits registered with Washington County Gives may receive gifts during this event.


Q. Is my gift safe and secure?

Yes. The Washington County Gives website is powered by Give Gab, which provides a secure PCI-Level 1 compliant site for donations. Your personal information is protected when you donate through the Give Gab platform via washingtoncountygives.org.


Q. Does the Community Foundation of Washington County get a portion of the proceeds from this day?

No, all of the funds donated May 11 go directly to the participating nonprofits. The CFWC sponsors Washington County Gives to promote philanthropy in the community and develop stronger relationships with local nonprofit organizations.


Q. How am I recognized as a donor?

You will receive an immediate thank you and your tax receipt from the Community Foundation of Washington County MD via e-mail. You can choose to make an anonymous donation if you prefer. Anonymous donors still receive a tax receipt, but will not receive a personal thank you from the nonprofit organization.


Q. Can I give multiple times to help my favorite nonprofit win a prize?

Yes and no: Yes, each time you give, your nonprofit has a chance to win the Grand Award for Most Dollars Raised. If an hourly Golden Ticket drawing occurs, your donation may help that nonprofit earn an extra prize. No, giving multiple times to your favorite nonprofit will not help them climb the Leaderboard to win the Grand Prize for Most Total Donors. The Leaderboard tracks each individual or unique donor who gives to that organization.

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD, Inc. and Give Gab can modify any restrictions or conditions, if in their sole judgment, such restriction or condition becomes unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community. As such, the Community Foundation of Washington County reserves the right to deny or condition the distribution of prize grants if, in the judgment of its board of directors, such restriction or condition becomes necessary.
